Assistant Professor, Aerospace Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in Aerospace Engineering, with applications that include, but are not limited to the following: Autonomous/Unmanned Systems, Control, Aeroelasticity, and Flight Dynamics. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2019 or as negotiated.

We seek candidates who will motivate others by example and provide empowering leadership in their research program, as well as provide inspirational teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  We seek applicants from diverse backgrounds to join our academic community.

We are looking for applicants who enjoy teaching courses in automation and control, aeroelasticity as well as fundamental courses in general engineering and mechanical engineering. The successful applicant will  create an active, internationally recognized research program, submit scholarly works to high quality publications, attract external research funding, advise and mentor their team of graduate students, and collaborate with University of Calgary faculty. They will be strongly encouraged to build connections with other researchers in the department, other departments, and faculties across campus.  We would like someone who will participate enthusiastically in other educational activities, professional service work, and academic committees.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; demonstrate excellence in research potential, including evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research potential leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding; evidence of excellence in teaching or demonstrated ability in excellent teaching at a university level. Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills. All program instruction is in English.

Candidates must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Information about becoming a professional engineer can be found online.
