Assistant Professor, Advanced Manufacturing, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in the area of Advanced Manufacturing, with applications to one or more of the following areas: additive manufacturing; emerging manufacturing processes for multi-functional materials and devices; digital manufacturing technologies; cyber-physical systems, sustainable manufacturing; nano manufacturing; printed electronics; biomanufacturing; advanced forming and joining technologies; among others. The appointment will be effective July 1, 2019 or as negotiated.

We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research, contribute proactively to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and add to the diversity of the academic community.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in manufacturing processes, instrumentations, materials, optimization, design processes, automation and control, as well as fundamental courses in general engineering and mechanical engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and lead an active, internationally recognized research program, attract external research funding, supervise graduate students, collaborate with University of Calgary faculty, and participate in other educational and professional activities including administrative duties. They will be strongly encouraged to build collaborations with other researchers in the department, other departments, and faculties across campus.

Assistant Professors will dedicate their time to teaching our undergraduate and graduate programs, continue to engage in high impact research, submit scholarly works to high quality publications, and provide service with the university and within our profession.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering; demonstrate excellence in research, including evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research potential leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding; as well as evidence of excellence in teaching or demonstrated ability in excellent teaching at a university level. Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills. All program instruction is in English.

Candidates must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Information about becoming a professional engineer can be found online.
