Director, Infrastructure and Planning

Established in 1998, St. John’s International Airport Authority (SJIAA) is a private, not-for-profit corporation that exists to provide a safe and efficient transportation facility that is a catalyst for economic growth at Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier gateway. St. John’s International Airport is located in the city of St. John’s, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador’s capital city. The airport currently serves over 1.5 million passengers annually. Approximately 70 per cent of all non-resident visitors who travel by air to and from the province do so through the St. John’s International Airport, and the Airport therefore plays a significant role in facilitating the economic growth and development of the region. The St. John’s International Airport Authority is currently looking for it’s next Director, Infrastructure and Planning.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent is the principal architect of SJIAA infrastructure strategy and is personally accountable for the achievement of strategic objectives in these essential areas of the Authority’s operations. The incumbent provides direction to the Manager, Infrastructure and the Technical Support Specialist, and has all associated human resource management responsibility.

The Director, Infrastructure and Planning is a senior management position, and is responsible for providing input and operational recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors related to long range Airport planning, infrastructure development, facilities management and overall strategic direction. The Director will maintain functional control of departmental operating budgets and will interpret all federal, provincial and municipal legislation, policies, codes, regulations and bylaws related to infrastructure development. Further, you will manage all infrastructure team members with responsibility for recruitment, career development, performance evaluation, discipline and/or termination.

As the ideal candidate, you have an undergraduate degree in Engineering and membership, or eligibility for membership, in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). You have at least 10 years of related experience, and seven or more years of supervisory experience. Experience with strategic business and infrastructure planning and budget preparation are considered assets. The ideal candidate also has exceptional leadership abilities along with a strong ethical standard and has excellent planning skills with the ability to prioritize workloads efficiently. You have a solid understanding of business principles, and related experience in the private sector is a significant asset. Experience liaising with government and regulatory agencies as well as a demonstrated ability to negotiate complex contracts are key. Successfully developing and implementing complex capital projects in excess of $10M is also considered a significant asset.
