The Faulty of Engineering and Applied Science has 6 honours undergraduate programs and also offers degrees in Engineering and Management for each of these programs. Job summary:  The Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Department within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology invites applications for a limited term teaching position in the area of Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering with a specialty in Mechatronics Engineering. The successful candidate would be expected to teach fundamental courses of engineering related to the above mentioned disciplines. This position reports to the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. 

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. In addition, a proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies is required as is evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment.  Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students are essential.

Duties will include preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials as assigned, preparing and marking assignments, tests and examinations, responding to student inquiries, maintaining regular office hours, and invigilating tests and examinations. 

The successful candidate will be appointed as an Academic Associate in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences and must be registered, or eligible for registration, as a professional engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Ontario.  Candidates with relevant industrial experience and previous teaching experience in a university will be given preference. The expected start date is TBD. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the equivalent of a maximum of seven (7) standard courses per contract year. The courses will be spread between the fall and the winter terms. The workload will comprise 70% Teaching, 20% Service, and 10% Other workload each year.

Education:

  • A PhD in an Engineering discipline, with a strong academic background is required
