Crone Geophysics & Exploration Ltd. of Mississauga, Ontario, has been manufacturing quality geophysical instrumentation for mining exploration since 1962. We are  seeking a full time Lead Power Electronics Engineer. As a lead engineer, reporting directly to senior management, you will be responsible for leading a design team of Power Electronics Engineers in the development of portable high power Geophysical Survey Instrumentation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Design and development of high power (up to 20 kW) instruments with appropriate safety standards and ruggedness for operation in a Geophysical Survey Environment. 
  • Manage a design team of Power engineers (including remote) as well as service technologists.
  • Work within project goals and scheduled milestones.
  • Perform schematic entry, PCB Layout, design calculations, simulations, prototyping and bread-boarding. 
  • Support  the Production department with the introduction of high power prototypes to the production stage.   
  • Support  the Repair & Field Survey Managers on high power  Instrument issues and Equipment training.   
  • Perform tests (Some Field) and evaluations for design validation and qualification. 
  • Provide service manuals, test instructions, and safety protocol for servicing and testing the high power instruments. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent in education.   
  • Minimum of 10 years of related High Power Electronics design experience.
  • Demonstrate management or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with various AC/DC, DC/DC Power Conversion topologies including PWM, PFC, and Linear Power Regulation.
  • Experience with power Supply Safety Standards
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting analog and digital controlled, Closed loop systems.
  • Mixed circuit design experience including Op-Amps, D/A, A/D, interfacing with micro-controllers, sensing and calibration techniques.
  • Experience with schematic entry, PCB Layout, and simulation tools (PADS, Altium, PSPICE, Mathcad or similar).   
  • Must have Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency Card.

We value:

  • Experience with programming in C (assembly is an asset).
  • Experience with ARM and DSP techniques.
