Research Chemical Engineer (NOC 21320)

Ltd. is a developer and manufacturer of laboratory and industrial analytical equipment, instruments, and procedures for more than a decade.  Based in Mission, BC, the company is currently looking to hire a full-time Research Chemical Engineer with the following responsibilities which include extensive research:

  • Design new analytical instruments and chemical process equipment, for continual improvement and innovation of existing products and production processes.
  • Perform all stages of research and development (R&D) projects: from engineering modeling of analytical instruments to prototype development and production.
  • Assemble, adjust and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation including atomic absorption analyzers with Zeeman background correction, capillary electrophoresis instruments, PCR analyzers and mass-spectrometers.
  • Perform software installation and parameters optimization for instrument operation.
  • Switch between production and research roles. Work efficiently in production environment, keeping pace with the flow of unit production while maintaining high quality and accuracy.
  • Research and review preparation of technical documents for sales teams.  Communicate with sales and technical personnel and R&D specialists located in China (knowledge of Chinese language will be an asset, although not mandatory).
  • Participate in customer support activities including application support and training as required.
  • Perform routine instruments maintenance, workplace cleaning and troubleshoot issues.
  • Develop Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) and quality control (QC) protocols. Perform a quality check of the products and analysis of the QC test results.
  • Produce product manuals including all technical documents, instructions for use, QC programs, and applicable standards.
  • Improve products and processes: simplify design of process, implement more cost-effective solutions, and continuously interact with R&D Department.
  • Coordinate all logistics for production supplies and products including shipping, receiving and communication with the suppliers and Supply Chain Department.
  • Inform management of unforeseen delays or problems with proposed solution
  • Prepare for and confirm compliance with all regulatory requirements for our products (standard requirements, building codes, environmental, etc.).
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as Research Chemical Engineer, as may be assigned from time to time by management.
  • Continuing education through participating in educational opportunities, trade shows conferences, and relevant publications.
  • Conduct extensive research in relation to the above duties and in the role as Research Chemical Engineer.

Skills requirements (includes education and work experience)

Completion of Earned Doctorate Degree in related fields

Minimum of 5 years experience working in related fields
