Asset Integrity, Lead Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for an Asset Integrity Lead Engineer, Horizon Upgrading to join our Oil Sands team at Canadian Natural Resources Limited one of Canada’s leading energy producers! At Canadian Natural, our Asset Integrity Lead Engineer plays a vital role within the Upgrading Asset Integrity Leadership team. As the Asset Integrity Lead Engineer for Horizon Upgrading, you will be responsible for supporting, developing and providing leadership to a technical team of engineers within our Upgrading, Utilities and Supporting Units at the Horizon facility.
- Job location: Horizon Oil Sands - Fort McMurray, Alberta.
- Company sponsored fly-in/fly-out and camp facilities with flights from Calgary or Edmonton
- Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours per day, Monday – Thursday

Key Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership, technical support and development to a team of engineers that are accountable for the asset integrity of pressure equipment and systems within Upgrading, Utilities and the Supporting Units value streams
- Steer the Asset Integrity engineers towards ownership and accountability of their units in terms of fitness for service and assessments efforts to ensure safe and reliable operations of the business area
- Support and lead a culture of Safety Excellence through leading by example and following all applicable codes and regulations
- Responsible for ensuring team members understand, implement and adhere to the company’s Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS) and Risk Based Inspection (RBI) program
- Responsible to ensure the engineering team understands the degradation mechanisms, current condition, and equipment strategies within their value streams
- Accountable for communicating and understanding the current and potential risks to the organization
- Work closely with the other cross functional teams to develop mitigation plans and strategies that will align with the company’s risk management plans
- Strive for continuous improvement to the reliability all units for, material reviews, design changes, chemical program enhancements, monitoring program enhancements, etc.
- Drive resolution of the threats in cooperation with other disciplines in the business unit to reduce the risk of the unit for our people and our plant
What You Bring to the Role:
- 10+ years’ of upgrader/refining experience including in-depth knowledge of refinery damage mechanisms, metallurgy, inspection and NDT Techniques
- B.Sc. Metallurgical, or Mechanical Engineering and registered with APEGA as a professional engineer.
- Proven track record of leadership (performance management, conflict resolution, mentorship, coaching, team building, etc.)
- Understanding of Alberta Safety Codes Act, and ABSA requirements, ASME and API Codes and Standards
