Team Lead, Signal Systems

Reporting to the Senior Leader of Rail Systems, the Leader of Signal Systems is responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, and coordinating the maintenance and repair of Calgary Transit's (CT) Light Rail Transit (LRT) Signaling System. This role involves overseeing engineering activities, managing budgets, and ensuring system reliability and safety. Primary duties include:

  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and manage performance.  
  • Manage the engineering, construction and maintenance of the LRT Signal System to ensure reliable and safe operations. 
  • Plan, schedule and supervise inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs of LRT Signals assets. 
  • Manage a multi-million-dollar budget, optimizing resource allocation and controlling costs. 
  • Analyze system status through logs and KPI data to prioritize maintenance and prepare progress reports for senior management. 
  • Develop and implement safety and reliability initiatives in collaboration with internal and external parties. 
  • Oversee contracts and manage procurement for maintenance and critical spares, coordinating with Finance and Supply departments. 
  • Create and implement guidelines, specifications and asset management plans; lead root cause analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards. 
  • Provide engineering oversight to maintain professional engineering practises. 
  • Serve as a Discipline Champion offering technical expertise, reviewing engineering submissions and ensuring alignment with industry standards.

Qualifications 

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field. 
  • You must have at least 8 years relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Experience in LRT signaling or rail systems engineering, including managing engineering projects and budgets with a strong understanding of LRT Signal System and industry best practices. 
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. 
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit. 
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in team management, project oversight and budget control. 
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience in root cause analysis and data interpretation. 
  • Effective communications skills with experience in presenting technical information to senior management. 
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners, manage procurement and lead cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to evaluate complex problems.   
  • Ability to implement innovative solutions and adapt to dynamic project requirements.

Compensation: Engineer Level F $103,584 - 158,650 per annum

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
