Reports To: Senior Director, Sustainability & Conservation
Position Summary: The Senior Decarbonization Engineer will play a pivotal role in identifying, implementing, and tracking energy-saving opportunities across the CAPREIT portfolio. Working closely with the Senior Director, Sustainability & Conservation, this position will ensure alignment with energy conservation and demand management programs while fostering a sustainable culture within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Energy Saving Opportunities & Action Plan: Identify, assess, and prioritize energy-saving projects, including both capital improvements and operational changes. Prepare comprehensive business cases and applications for funding opportunities.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in maintaining the annual capital expenditure budget for all energy conservation projects. Participate in quarterly forecasting exercises to ensure accurate budget execution.
- Energy Tracking & Monitoring: Establish and maintain an energy tracking and monitoring system for each facility/process, capturing monthly consumption and electrical load inventory.
- Primary Assessment: Conduct high-level assessments and walk-through audits to identify energy-saving opportunities and recommend detailed evaluations for specific systems.
- Maintenance and Operating Schedules: Collaborate with Technical Services to optimize control systems, operating schedules, and maintenance practices for enhanced energy efficiency.
- Project Implementation: Coordinate the planning, budgeting, and execution of energy-saving projects, ensuring timely design, installation, and verification.
- Measurement & Verification: Implement measurement and verification strategies for reporting needs and compliance requirements.
- Sustainability-Driven Behavior and Business Process Improvements: Foster a sustainable culture within CAPREIT, encouraging employees to identify and report energy conservation opportunities and efficiencies.
- Assistance to LDC Projects: Coordinate and assist with site inspections by relevant authorities, collecting data on energy use changes.
- Reporting: Assist in completing quarterly reports and fulfilling reporting obligations for energy management programs. Lead the Canada Infrastructure Bank requirement for decarbonization certification and verification.
Qualifications:
- Professional designation as a Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (CET), a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) is required.
- Strong background in industrial and multi-residential energy use, energy management, and project management.
- Highly organized with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in office computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Yardi, Brightly, Word, Vision, and PowerPoint.
