Associate Dean, Engineering

<p>Beginning in September 2019, the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) will be offering an expansion of the fully accredited joint Environmental Engineering program with the University of British Columbia (UBC). In addition, a new Civil Engineering degree program will begin to be offered at the same time. UNBC is receiving start-up funding from the government for the new civil and environmental engineering degree programs. This funding will ramp up to support first students&rsquo; entry into the new programs in September 2019 and a total of 280 spaces by 2022-23, with 70 graduates per year expected by 2023. UNBC also offers a Master&rsquo;s Degree in Integrated Wood Design which is housed in the Wood Innovation &amp; Design Centre.</p> <p>The exciting inaugural position of <strong>Associate Dean of the School of Engineering</strong> offers a unique opportunity to build an Environmental and Civil Engineering Program. The Associate Dean reports to and works collaboratively with the Dean of the College of Science and Management and other members of the administration in the development and implementation of the Faculty&rsquo;s strategic initiatives. The Associate Dean will lead the development and implementation of a new, vibrant, and responsive Engineering program at one of Canada&rsquo;s leading undergraduate universities. The Associate Dean will be committed to the mission and values of UNBC, providing strategic, creative and inspirational leadership for faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to recruit, develop and support a team of faculty and staff committed to the highest standards of excellence in Environmental and Civil Engineering education and research. The Associate Dean will lead this team in designing and delivering a dynamic, industrially relevant program intended to be responsive to the needs of northern communities across the region and the world.</p> <p>The Associate Dean will also be responsible for maintaining the existing joint Environmental Engineering program with UBC and working collaboratively to deliver a program for Engineering which encompasses the entire province. The Associate Dean will integrate, maintain and enhance the existing Master of Engineering in Integrated Wood Design program and its facilities within the School of Engineering.</p> <p>The Associate Dean is responsible for administrative oversight, ensuring the effective delivery of academic programs and manage the financial priorities within the School, and leading and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within and across several program areas on curriculum design, research projects, and continuous enhancement of the teaching and learning environments. As a strategic leader within the University, the Associate Dean will promote innovation, long-term academic planning, budget planning, internal and external partnership with industry and design professionals in both Canada and abroad ensuring the program is engaged, connected, and relevant.</p> <p>As the ideal candidate, you are a person of vision with a desire to lead the development of Engineering education in a northern setting but with global impact. An articulate spokesperson for both Environmental and Civil Engineering, you are energetic, innovative, and internationally recognized. You have proven experience in building effective, innovative and diverse teams and are an engaging instructor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. You are known for your interdisciplinary approach and ability to connect with a diverse learning community, fellow academics, the engineering community, and the community-at-large. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and be a Professional Engineer in Canada or have credentials that will allow them to become registered in Canada within three years.&nbsp;</p> <p>This Associate Dean is a 5-year renewable term and the appointment will be accompanied by a tenured academic appointment at the rank of Full or Associate Professor.</p> <p>This is an exciting opportunity to live in a community with spectacular outdoor recreational opportunities and join a vibrant, dynamic culture on campus.
