We are currently accepting applications for an experienced Project Manager to join our Project Management Office (PMO) for a 3-year term. The PMO is responsible for oversight and governance of all projects at TRIUMF, from conception to completion. The Project Manager will be involved in the Advanced Rare Isotope Laboratory (ARIEL) project, which is TRIUMF’s flagship multidisciplinary research facility. This world-class facility will broaden Canada’s research capabilities in particle physics, nuclear physics, nuclear medicine, and materials science, by tripling the amount of rare isotope beam available to scientists.
This is a "hands-on" leadership role in a dynamic environment, requiring the successful candidate to interact daily with project leaders and team members such as physicists, designers, engineers and technicians to devise plans, make key decisions, and solve problems. You will apply project management best practices and the TRIUMF project governance process to achieve ARIEL objectives, and your other responsibilities will include:
- Developing and documenting requirements, concepts, and interfaces in conjunction with project leaders and team members
- Coordinating the installation, integration, and functional testing of equipment and sub-systems with other project stakeholders, and planning and preparing the commission of scientific systems and facilities
- Pro-actively spotting critical path tasks and work packages, and working with stakeholders to reduce or reverse slippages
- Developing and maintaining project management documents required for successful project completion that abide by TRIUMF project governance process
- Chairing effective project meetings and using minutes, schedules and budgets to ensure team efforts are aligned
- Reporting progress periodically at review meetings to project leadership and to TRIUMF management

You are self-directed with strong interpersonal skills, and your qualifications include:
- Proven documentation and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Project and Excel
- Strong abilities in planning, executing, monitoring and control; building and managing complex task logic; and building analytical models for complex project datasets
- Sound technical and management judgement, with a high attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects
- Demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to build effective relationships and lead multi-disciplinary teams
- A university degree in science or engineering, with at least 5 years of project management experience with demonstrated results leading significant projects
While not required, the following would be considered a definite asset to your application: PMP designation; experience in physics, engineering, and/or systems engineering; and experience working at a large-scale research institute.
