The Assistant Director (AD) of Facilities Management is a highly motivated, self-starting individual, with exceptional leadership skills and technical competence.  The role requires extensive leadership experience, combined with exemplary problem solving and communication skills, in order to develop and implement effective solutions through a highly cooperative and collaborative approach.  This AD is a natural relationship-builder and team-player, committed to fostering a culture of engagement with internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, the AD of Facilities Management manages project planning and implementation, operational performance and service delivery, and provides leadership on resourcing, administration and communications. 

Major Accountabilities:

The AD is accountable for the effective delivery of programs, services and management of associated resources.  The position is responsible for cooperating and collaborating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure needs are understood and solutions developed to address specific objectives.  The AD will assist the Director in the development and implementation of strategic direction and key initiatives, and ensure the team delivers on the City’s operational commitments.  The AD will lead by example, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, work ethic and values.

The AD leads a team of three, while supporting a team of approximately 60 staff in a unionized environment.  The role requires a skilled individual who clearly communicates objectives, priorities and timelines, and supports team members to deliver high quality results. They will develop and manage service planning and delivery, which includes technical analysis, project management, as well as the development of enabling policies and processes.  

The ideal candidate will have exemplary written and verbal communication skills, and will be a consummate team player, seamlessly integrating within the City’s unique and highly collaborative environment.  The individual will professionally represent both the department and the City during liaison with members of the public, agencies, businesses, and other government organizations.

The AD has considerable experience in the delivery of services relating to building operations, long-term planning and construction of buildings/public infrastructure, employing a creative, innovative, and effective approach to leading citizen/client-focused teams.

Qualifications (Preferred):

Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Diploma/Certificate in Construction, Project Management, or other related training.

Ten years of progressively responsible management experience in a building construction, facilities management setting or other similar service-based environment.  

Competencies:

Level 3 or higher, Exempt Competency Framework.

Work schedule: Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)

Pay Band 8 ($143,024.18 to $168,263.08)
