Director, Real Estate and Development Services

We are seeking a collaborative, strategic and passionate public service leader to provide their vision, change management abilities, and acumen to shape The City of Calgary’s Real Estate business unit, as directed by Council priorities.

As the Director, Real Estate & Development Services, you will lead the development of a Corporate Land Strategy which includes the acquisition, leasing, sale and development of City lands, both industrial and strategic city-owned parcels. A key focus of this role is to inspire and guide a team of 100 real estate experts to manage the industrial, commercial, and residential land programs, in accordance with the Industrial Land Strategy. Using your advanced understanding of real estate and land development, combined with a collaborative leadership style you will manage an operating budget of $112.3M and an $86.3M capital budget to advance the business unit’s plan.

As the core leader in Calgary’s Real Estate & Development Services, you will cultivate collaborative working relationships with elected officials, industry and community leaders, while serving as a member of the Deputy City Manager Leadership Team, and The City’s Senior Management Team (SMT).

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related field (Real Estate, Planning, Finance, Engineering, Urban Design), and over 10 years of experience, you are a senior leader in the real estate industry – demonstrating proven successes and accomplishments in strategic planning, land development, urban redevelopment, and community liaison work.

  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education will be considered.

  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, OR current Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, OR a current Real Estate designation would be considered an asset.
