Clad Metals Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

The position will provide technical expertise and leadership to the production organization in the area of clad metals and contact materials. This role will understand the properties and behaviors of different materials and their interactions through the entire process. The position will generate appropriate process controls, in order to improve both finished goods physical properties, but also yields. Gaining knowledge of, and applying that knowledge of the behaviors of Ag, Cu and base metals is essential to success. Knowledge of metal joining, metal forming as well as in-line processing and stamping processes is required. The position will continuously address improvements to materials and processes in order to improve the performance and cost-effectiveness of products.

The position will manage projects, including capital projects, that can improve the cost, throughput and product quality of the clad metal product family.

Experience in the manufacturing and development of formed metals and stamped components of not less than three (3) years is required to be able to contribute to the company’s outcomes early in the work term.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Product development and product support of clad metal processes and stamping processes
  • Establishing control plans, CTQ characteristics that deliver best in class products to clients
  • Working to solve problems arising from raw material variation and/or mfg process variation
  • Continuously addressing cost reductions through an assessment of raw materials and alternative manufacturing processes
  • Analysis of data using computer modelling software such as Ansys
  • Mitigating waste of any product or process
  • Developing alternative processes, including automation systems to support cost reduction and/or product quality improvements and/or revenue increases
  • Coaching of junior engineers and/or co-op students
  • Liaising with colleagues in manufacturing, technical support, purchasing, and marketing
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • B.Eng, CET or CT in Mechanical Engineering is required. An advanced degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering is desired.
  • Competency with Solidwork or Autocad, Minitab, and SPC software is required
  • Competency in the MS software is required
  • PLC language programming is required
  • Proficiency in Epicor and Ansys are highly beneficial
  • Proficiency in metallurgical sample preparation and metallographic analysis and reporting is required
  • Proficiency in the DMAIC methodology is required
  • Understanding of Toyota Production System methodologies is required
  • Project management skills are required
  • An ability to exercise independent judgment is required
  • A customer first & continuous improvement mindset are required.
