The Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and the School of the Environment at the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full- time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of interactions of atmospheric processes with land-surface and land-sea hydrologic processes and the impacts on infrastructure with a focus on climate change impacts on infrastructure. The appointment will be a joint appointment between the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering and the School of the Environment and is expected to begin September 1, 2023 or shortly thereafter.

Candidates must have a PhD in civil engineering, or a related discipline, by the date of appointment with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Applicants must indicate how their expertise would complement and extend existing research and teaching in the environmental engineering and science areas and extend the impact of Civil & Mineral Engineering and the School of the Environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program. The candidate will also be involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen connections between the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering and the School of the Environment through both teaching and research.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels must be demonstrated through a teaching statement (3 page limit) highlighting previous experience that can include leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, delivering conference presentations or posters, or experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor. Excellence in teaching may also be demonstrated through a teaching dossier/portfolio that includes sample course syllabi (either of courses delivered by the candidate or planned for the future), course evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
