Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland & Labrador (PEGNL) is an organization whose mandate is to regulate the practice of engineering and geoscience in the public interest, as outlined in the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, 2008 of Newfoundland and Labrador. PEGNL exists so that there will be competent and ethical practice of engineering and geoscience in Newfoundland and Labrador, and to ensure public confidence in, sustainability and stewardship of the professions.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides executive leadership and management for the organization’s strategic plan, administration, programs and services and plays a vital role in assuring PEGNL’s success. The CEO is responsible for leadership and implementation of Board policy direction. These responsibilities include providing leadership in strategic planning; ensuring that the regulatory functions are fulfilled; representing PEGNL in regional and national initiatives; and managing the human, financial and material resources of PEGNL. Working in partnership with the Board in its governance role, the CEO will provide leadership to PEGNL staff in the interpretation and implementation of Board policy directions. The CEO will act as the Registrar under the Act, and carry out established regulatory functions for both registration and disciplinary processes.

As a strategic and collaborative leader, the CEO is tasked with forging lasting relationships with and amongst the members of the engineering and geoscience industry. Supported by a strong senior management team, the CEO will focus their attention on the sustainable development of Newfoundland and Labrador’s engineering and geoscience industry. Strengthening the operations of PEGNL, the CEO is responsible for attaining the goals and objectives set by the Board of Directors, within its established mandate, policies and budget.

As the ideal candidate, you bring demonstrated business experience and have a passion for the engineering and geoscience sector in Newfoundland and Labrador. Proactive and energetic, you anticipate and understand trends, problems and opportunities and successfully interpret them for the organization’s effectiveness. Your demonstrated dynamism, passion and ability to inspire, as well as your superior stakeholder and relationship building expertise, will contribute to guiding the success of PEGNL’s vision, strategy and objectives.  A strong administrator, you are comfortable in a boardroom, reading financial statements, directing multiple projects, planning events and have excellent communication skills that are evident through achieved results. Your prepared and credible demeanor allow you to be confident interacting with media, including radio and television forum. You have a minimum of 5 years senior leadership experience and hold a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. Experience working in a self-regulating profession would be considered an asset.
