The Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full- time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Mineral/Mining Engineering. The appointment is expected to begin January 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter.
Candidates must have a PhD in mineral/mining engineering or a related discipline by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates with research and teaching expertise in the field of mineral/mining engineering. Applicants must have strong technical expertise in a focus area, as well as an interdisciplinary approach to research. Areas of focus may include, but are not limited to, the following;
- computational resource modelling, geostatistics and geometallurgy
- advanced mining technology (mine automation, advanced robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, IoT and sensor technology)
- remote sensing applied in mining and geosciences
- mineral economics and mining finance
Applicants must indicate how their expertise would complement and extend existing research and teaching in the mining and mineral engineering areas and extend the impact of the Department. It is preferred that candidates have an undergraduate degree in engineering and be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program. The candidate will also be involved in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and departmental service.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels must be demonstrated through a teaching statement (3 page limit) highlighting previous experience that can include leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, delivering conference presentations or posters, or experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor. Excellence in teaching may also be demonstrated through a teaching dossier/portfolio that includes sample course syllabi (either of courses delivered by the candidate or planned for the future), course evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters. Professional or lived experiences that enhance the ability to teach a diverse student body are highly valued.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
