Senior Environmental Engineer

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking an addition to the Environmental Engineering Team in Nova Scotia and/or New Brunswick. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Environmental Engineer who is a motivated team player to support our operations.

The position of Senior Environmental Engineer supports the Team on environmental site assessment and remediation projects on a wide variety of public sector (i.e. Federal, Provincial and Municipal government) lands, industrial and manufacturing facilities, mining, and commercial operations such as retail gasoline service stations. Experience in project management and conducting thorough senior review of a variety of assessment reports is key, as well and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The incumbent should exhibit a high level of business development and client management responsibilities, identifying potential new clients and/or developing additional work within an existing project or with an existing client.

Key Responsibilities

At Wood a Senior Environmental Engineer’s responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Conducting and managing contaminated site investigations and remediation projects including Phase I/II/III Environmental site assessments, remedial options analysis, detailed remedial design, and proving remedial supervision with support from a Team of qualified engineers/geoscientists, engineers and geoscientists in training and technicians

  • Applying technical knowledge and methods to formulate solutions and approaches to complex problems in the area of site assessment, in-situ and ex-situ remediation

  • Prepare contract tender documents for assessment and remediation projects for sub-contractors. Oversee, manage and direct sub-contractors

  • Identify, develop, secure and maintain client business opportunities through written proposals and personal marketing activities

  • Management, training and development of junior personnel within the organization

  • Ultimately ensure geological/environmental studies are conducted safely, in strict compliance with Company proprietary safety standards, government regulations and environmental concerns

  • Support of transactional projects and portfolios including technically demanding projects with multidisciplinary teams and tight timelines

Skills / Qualifications

  • University graduate with a directly related degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, geoscience or environmental science

  • Designated Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.)

  • Minimum ten years industry experience in contaminated site investigation and remediation

  • Additional experience or an understanding in other areas including contaminant hydrogeology, waste management, auditing, environmental due diligence, or risk assessment would be an asset

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Federal and Provincial contaminated sites legislation, regulations and processes

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and hands-on training or mentoring of junior personnel

  • Must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and on budget. Desire to provide excellent practical client service and a commitment to technical excellence

  • Provide technical leadership, build and maintain staff morale, and set an example of personal conduct and ethics
