Environmental Engineer

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is currently accepting resumes for the permanent, full-time position of Environmental Engineer, based out of the Watershed Conservation Centre located in Fanshawe Conservation Area, London, ON.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Engineer, the Environmental Engineer will serve as a technical plan reviewer for both planning proposals pursuant to the Planning Act and applications made to the UTRCA pursuant to Section 28 of the Conservation Authorities Act, helping to ensure compliance with the Conservation Authority’s policies, goals, guidelines and objectives. This position will assist in providing technical support to member municipalities on matters related to watershed and subwatershed planning and management of flooding, stormwater and erosion hazards.

Qualifications:

Education, (degree, diploma, certificates, licenses)

  • Membership in the Professional Engineers of Ontario is required;
  • A bachelor degree from an accredited school in civil, environmental or water resourcesengineering.
  • CPESC certification (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control) is preferredor should be achieved within one year of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience related to development planning and servicing, waterresources-related projects, modelling of hydrologic and hydraulic systems, implementationand monitoring of sediment and erosion control measures, flooding and erosion hazardanalysis and Low Impact Design (LID) is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Ability

  • Strong understanding of applicable legislation, policies and processes pertaining to thisfield.
  • Ability to interpret earth processes, natural features and land uses from an extensivevariety of maps and plans, use of air photos and interpretation in the field.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend technical reports such as Stormwater ManagementReports, Subwatershed Plans, Geotechnical and Hydrogeological studies, EnvironmentalImpact Studies and Fisheries reports and relate them to current policies and objectives.
  • General knowledge of Court, Tribunal, Board and Hearing decorum and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with an ability to work cooperativelyboth within the UTRCA office environment and with a diverse stakeholder group includingconsultants and government officials at a municipal and provincial level.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer systems, geographic information systems, andsoftware related to responsibilities, including standard office productivity software (wordprocessing, spreadsheet, presentation software etc.) and database applications.

Compensation and Other Information $40.20 to $48.91 per hour – 35 hours per week
