Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Carries out technical work for the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of the City’s transportation-related infrastructure
  • Provides Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) services in support of municipal infrastructure construction projects, reports to council and maintenance programs
  • Interprets, transcribes and translates information from aerial photographs into digital data. Maintains and updates collected data in CADD system
  • Prepares conceptual road designs, pavement marking designs and technical details
  • Prepares, interprets, checks, edits, and maintains transportation-related, graphic and non-graphic data in CADD and GIS environments
  • Participates in the design, implementation, maintenance and on-going support of the Transportation Services CADD standards
  • Participates in the design, implementation, maintenance and on-going support of GIS projects and databases, and of requests that require the creation of custom data sets, and the delivery of cartographic products
  • Prepares, reads and interprets technical drawings, sketches, maps, and plans
  • Performs research and calculations.
  • Analyses technical data to ensure that standard levels are met
  • Provides estimates of material quantities
  • Participates in the design, implementation, maintenance and on-going support of the Transportation Services CADD standards
  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, and computerized equipment to perform drafting and calculations
  • Occasionally conducts field investigations to review existing conditions, or to collect data


Key Qualifications:

 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary education in an accredited Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering program, or the an equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Extensive experience in drafting and designing with CADD, specifically through the use of Bentley MicroStation software.
  3. Experience using the TAC's Geometric Road Design Guide in roadway design

You must also have:

  • Knowledge of, and ability to use traffic modelling software, such as Synchro/SimTraffic is considered an asset.
  • Ability to produce consistently accurate work and to respond to deadlines in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of various transportation-related statutes and regulations such as The Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Manual and relevant municipal traffic/transportation by-laws.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to work simultaneously on a variety of projects in a close team environment
  • Knowledge of MapInfo, ESRI ArcGIS software and manipulation of spatial data in a GIS environment software.
  • Good mathematical skills.
