The Senior Energy Engineer is responsible for providing professional engineering, business and strategic analyses in support of the implementation and operation of the Community energy program, including the evaluation and implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency solutions, programs and supply options. Primary duties include:

  • Act as Responsible member for The City on climate and greenhouse gas emissions engineering

  • Provide economic and market analysis of energy strategy and outcomes including trending and forecasting.

  • Advance the carbon budget, carbon pricing and carbon offset management.

  • Lead and support cross-corporate and external negotiations on energy and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Support in identification of energy conservation and optimization opportunities.

  • Investigate and evaluate renewable energy supply and energy efficiency technologies to improve energy utilization and reduce greenhouse emissions, including performing detailed analyses of the related technical and economic costs, benefits and risks.

  • Advise and guide strategic energy supply partnerships with private and government entities.

  • Initiate and provide engineering and project leadership for new energy projects and programs between City Business Units, external business partners and other government entities.

  • Perform engineering analysis and prepare reports on The City's energy use, costs and conservation program performance.

  • Provide mentorship to engineering and other staff as well as consultant management.

Qualifications

  • A related Engineering Degree, registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or licensure by the first day of work.

  • The position requires at least 8 years of experience in business and strategic planning, complex engineering and business issues analyses, implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and the procurement, delivery and management of natural gas, and electricity and energy management solutions.

  • Municipal experience will be considered an asset.

  • Candidates will require strong analysis and communication skills; the ability to evaluate complex engineering and business issues and develop solutions; and the ability to organize, coordinate and direct the work of other internal and external engineering and scientific professionals.

Compensation: Level F $98,595 - 151,009 per annum (New Rates)

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, earning 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
