The Structural Engineer works under the general supervision of the Principal structural Engineer, to manage the planning, design and construction of civil engineering works with a structural bias, including: preparing tender and contract documents, site supervision, Investigations and feasibility studies. Manages staff' on construction sites to ensure that functional requirements and performance specifications for projects are met, financial control is maintained and safety and the environment are protected.

 

Applicants must possess a recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering / P.Eng, CEng, MICE, or equivalent.  Must be eligible for registration in the Bermuda Professional Engineer Registration Council (PERC) or have Corporate Membership in an overseas professional body as required for registration. A minimum of three years post-professional qualification (CEng, PEng or equivalent) together with a minimum of seven years overall experience (post qualification BSC, BEng, or equivalent) in mainstream structural engineering with an emphasis on Marine, Bridge or Building Engineering.  Management of construction sites and financial control and certification.

 

The work is not always limited to regular working hours and on occasion the postholder will be required to work during the weekend, evening and at night the post holder will be required to work in confined spaces on occasion. The post holder is required to hold a valid driver's license.

 

Directly responsible for the management of professional and skilled staff on construction sites and professionally designated engineering staff under contract to the Ministry. Manages professional and skilled staff as required by the Principal Structural Engineer.

 

The following would be considered as assets for this position

  • SQJBA / PADI {or equivalent) certification
  • Project Management certification
  • Heavy Truck driver's license
