Director of Registration - Engineers Nova Scotia

Director of Registration

Engineers Nova Scotia

Halifax, NS

Engineers Nova Scotia is the licensing and regulatory body for more than 8,000 Professional Engineers and Engineers-in-Training practicing in Nova Scotia. With a mission to license registrants who are qualified and competent, assisting them to fulfill their obligations to practice engineering in the best interests of the public, Engineers Nova Scotia is empowered by the Engineering Profession Act and is supported by the council, staff, and many volunteers who work to better the profession. Engineers Nova Scotia’s efforts touch thousands of Nova Scotians by assisting students to reach their potential to become an engineer, assisting young professionals along their journey, enforcing regulatory standards, and promoting high professional practice standards. Our vision is a safe and sustainable Nova Scotia protected by accessible, progressive, and trusted regulation of the engineering profession.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer the Director of Registration is responsible for ensuring all applicants are processed fairly in keeping with the Engineering Profession Act and the principles of the Fair Registration Practices Act. The Director builds relationships with applicants, ensuring they are clear on the requirements, set up for success, and confident in the support provided by Engineers Nova Scotia. The Director works closely with applicants and registrants to ensure licensure requirements are clear. Additionally, the Director supports the Board of Examiners in their review and assessment of all applications, and based on the Board of Examiners’ decisions, provides guidance to those applicants on the next steps and/or program details.

The Director leads the registration team and provides direction on the application process and member file management, including collecting application fees and the annual dues. They partner with engineering associations across the country to share best practices and to stay up to date on current admission requirements and mutual recognition agreements. This individual possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, has an eye for detail, and strong people, communication, organizational, technical, and HR skills.

The successful candidate has 3-6 years of leadership experience - ideally with experience within a membership-based organization; experience within a post-secondary education system and with mutual recognition agreements would also be considered an asset. A professional engineering designation is an asset however experience within another regulated profession would be considered.

The Director is a natural leader of people with exceptional management skills; they are innovative, energetic, and strategic with an entrepreneurial mindset that will help Engineers Nova Scotia move into its second century of service to Nova Scotians.
