PROFILE

Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office is currently seeking a motivated Patent Agent Trainee to join its dynamic Intellectual Property Group.    

The successful candidate will possess an undergrad in electrical, mechanical, computer engineering or a related discipline. The candidate should have a good general understanding of electrical engineering and should enjoy, and have an aptitude for, learning new technologies.   Working within our high technology group with local high-tech companies, the Patent Agent Trainee is client-facing, working with local clients to assist in the development of their Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio. The Trainee will draft and prosecute patent applications, conduct patent searches, and assist in the preparation of patentability opinions.  The successful candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills and be prepared to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
