Chief Regulatory Officer (CRO)

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia regulates and governs the engineering and geoscience professions under the authority of the Professional Governance Act.

 

The organization is charged with setting robust standards for entry and enforcing high standards of professional and ethical practice in order to protect the public.  Only individuals and firms licensed by Engineers and Geoscientists are permitted by law to undertake and assume responsibility for engineering and geoscience work in the province.

The Chief Regulatory Officer (CRO) and Registrar assumes overall responsibility for Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s regulatory functions including admissions, registration, professional practice, enforcement, investigation, discipline, and legislation. They will perform all functions in a manner consistent with the Professional Governance Act, organization policies, and strategic plan. The incumbent carries out the duties of Registrar as set out in the Professional Governance Act and Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s bylaws and oversees the development, implementation and execution of policies and procedures necessary to carry out the Registrar’s statutory duties.

 

This position requires the incumbent to have a broad fundamental understanding of the professions of engineering and geoscience and of the educational and practice requirements for both. The ideal candidate is a confident leader with a career background in regulation and/or policy development who is known for their strategic impact, progressive management, and innovative process improvement skillset. Of utmost importance is a background developing and maintaining excellence of process, service and business decisions.   

 

The selected individual will be a proven collaborator and relationship builder with a track record of successful strategic oversight of a regulatory function of a highly regulated organization. With accountability for leading a team of 40+ resources and interacting with diverse stakeholder groups internal and external to the organization, the individual will be a proactive planner, an excellent coach and a strong influencer.
