Your opportunity:

Working under the direction of the Manager, Facility Asset & Utilities Planning, you will be responsible for electrical system planning, design, construction admin, documentation maintenance, and facilities portfolio at University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.

You will partake in building assessments, infrastructure upgrades, renovations, coordination of campus system shut-downs, new construction projects through planning and implementing the development of new standards as well as assisting with construction site coordination and project turnover. This would include the planning and execution and project management support of electrical utilities infrastructure upgrades, site coordination of construction activities, creation of electrical building services design standards and contribute to the Campus utilities reduction strategies and asset management strategies

You will apply your knowledge of data analysis, design and construction to surveys existing systems, develop construction documentation and assist with procurement, create drawings and documentation for the project in accordance with current codes and standards, review completed work, liaise with parties involved and provide reports as requested.

In general, you will work on collaborative multidisciplinary teams who work together to renew, transform the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus for its whole community.

Working closely with the Facilities Management team, your proactive and forethoughtful approach will be instrumental in forecasting and planning upcoming projects and plans.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Analyzing and recommending options for project design to solve problems creatively
  • Analyzing, synthesizing and incorporating information from multiple sources into technical documents for reporting and review of senior staff
  • Liaising between stakeholders and/or contractors
  • Coordinating and communicating work being performed on facilities to minimize disruptions to daily operations
  • Reviewing drawings, contract documents and site conditions to capture updates and changes to existing site/building conditions in AutoCAD
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Producing technical documentation and CAD drawings for approval
  • Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum four years of related work experience in the engineering industry
  • Experience in electrical design and contract admin experience (power, lighting, lighting control, fire alarm, communications, security, and relevant fields)
  • Demonstrated experience producing technical documentation and CAD drawings and reviewing technical design documents with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience processing and analyzing datasets using technical tools and disseminating data reports
  • Experience conducting site visits to inspect work and ensure adherence to timelines
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating project activities and cost estimates, maintaining project records, and preparing planning reports
  • Experience understanding and applying national and local codes and standards (OBC, OESC, ASHRAE, NFPA) to electrical and life-safety design
  • Strong problem-solver, forethoughtful and proactive
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office particular proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Project, as well as AutoCAD, and Bluebeam

Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Electrical Engineering and working towards a professional engineer license (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) preferred
  • Registered as Engineering Intern (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) preferred
  • Working experience with photometric calculation software is an asset
  • Design experience with REVIT is an asset
