Overview

Reporting directly to the Manager, Engineering Design and Construction, the Senior Project Manager provides leadership in the delivery of civil infrastructure capital construction projects.  

 

The Senior Project Manager utilizes their extensive knowledge of capital project management, design, construction and project administration to deliver projects on schedule and within budget, oversee staff, consultants and contractors and provide engineering support to all City departments.

 

This position supervises, assigns and reviews divisional staff work; identifies and implements strategies to deliver projects and prioritize work assignments when conflicting deadlines arise; administers grant applications; represents the City at external committees; and manages budgets and financial statements associated with the Capital program.

 

Background, Education and Experience:

You possess 10+ years’ experience including a combination of engineering and project management experience in design, construction, consultant administration, contract administration and construction inspection; University Degree in Civil Engineering with Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience on utility infrastructure projects would also be considered. Experience in municipal or consulting engineering would be desirable. You possess a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia. You have Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials (recommended). You are registered or eligible for registration with the relevant professional association in British Columbia (EGBC, ASTTBC).

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • You possess strong municipal engineering technical knowledge in design and construction including the Master Municipal Construction Document and City Specifications.
  • You are proficient in managing projects designed by internal and external engineering consultants, and constructed by City forces or contractors.
  • You have strong knowledge of regulatory and contract management risks and issues.
  • You are able to prepare and present reports and presentations to Senior Management, Committees, Council and Mayor, and external organizations as directed, and are able to adapt and lead change using superior interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills.
  • You are able to deal effectively with elected officials and the public with tact and diplomacy.

Working Conditions:

Duties are mostly performed in an office environment, with some construction site visits and inspections. Some field work may be required.
