Instructor I, Instructor II or Senior Instructor

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Price Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time two-year term position at the rank of Instructor I, Instructor II or Senior Instructor in Mechanical Engineering (Position #30593). The starting date is July 15th, 2021 or a date mutually agreed upon. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in thermodynamics, and two or more of the following areas: a) dynamics,  b) kinematics and c) vibrations.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s or Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Current registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba as Engineering Intern or P.Eng. is required. Undergraduate teaching experience and demonstrated training will be an asset. Candidates with three or more years of mechanical engineering experience will be preferred.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to teach effectively, be a passionate, dynamic and inspirational teacher, and possess excellent written communication skills.

Duties include teaching and service.

Teaching duties will include the following:

  • To teach five undergraduate course sections in each academic year (September to August).
  • To train, supervise and evaluate teaching assistants.
  • To participate in course and curriculum development.
  • To develop and coordinate the laboratory components of courses as required.

The service component may include service and administrative duties within the Department, the Faculty and the University, and in the community. In particular, the successful candidate will participate in initiatives related to undergraduate instruction and accreditation. This position has no research duties.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (https://umanitoba.ca/explore/programs-of-study/mechanical-engineering-bsc) has twenty-five faculty members, twelve support staff, and approximately five hundred undergraduate and one hundred and ten graduate students.
