Energy Systems Coordinator

Your opportunity:

Working under the direction of the Manager - Energy Management and Design, the Energy Systems Coordinator will be responsible for providing full building engineering services undertaken by the Facilities Management Department - from project planning, design, construction, commissioning and reviewing existing systems for energy performance.

The successful candidate will participate in major facilities infrastructure replacements and upgrades, including key space renovation projects that comprise an extensive impact to building systems, such as research laboratories.

You will use your knowledge of sustainable building design practices to integrate current energy efficiency trends into the planning of facilities renovations. The successful candidate will apply an interdisciplinary mindset by incorporating their understanding of the design of mechanical systems with related components in controls systems, power distribution, and building enclosures.

The successful candidate will support the optimization and commissioning of critical existing building system infrastructure by analyzing and making recommendations to senior management for data driven decisions for the development and execution of major energy efficiency retrofit projects. This will including producing business cases for future projects using energy models and heating/cooling load profiles, and also communicating energy performance (measured and expected) in visual formats.

The Energy Systems Coordinator will support the Manager in project management and execution tasks, and also work independently as necessary on design investigations, tender document set production, energy modeling, and development of heating/cooling and ventilation system schematics.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Implementing plans and process improvements for building infrastructure renovation projects
  • Liaising between internal and external project team stakeholders and/or contractors
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Overseeing the implementation of minor renovations and equipment replacement projects
  • Analyzing heating/cooling system energy consumption measurements and synthesizing from Building Automation System trend data according to applied standards
  • Producing technical documentation and CAD drawings for inclusion in tender document sets
  • Analyzing, synthesizing and incorporating information from multiple sources into technical documents for dissemination
  • Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years' progressive work experience in technical industries
  • Self-starter, with a demonstrated problem solving initiative
  • Commitment to continuous learning and growth
  • Strong computing skills and knowledge, including but not limited to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other packages for the purpose of data analysis and visualization
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of energy modeling software or methodologies; Carrier HAP or other package
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Experience reading and developing construction drawings, with a strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge and experience applying codes and standards including OBC, ASHRAE, CSA and other relevant codes to HVAC and Plumbing systems design

Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, and tracking towards licensure with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) preferred
  • Experience with Python and data science libraries is an asset
  • Database experience and knowledge of SQL is an asset
  • Pre-graduation co-op terms and internship work experience will be considered
