Senior Laboratory Instructor I

The University of Northern British Columbia invites applications for a full-time, two-year (24 month) term position as a Senior Laboratory Instructor I, with a proposed starting date of July 1, 2021. This position is within the newly created School of Engineering at UNBC (https://www.unbc.ca/engineering). The successful candidates will join a dynamic team of established and junior researchers in engineering, will teach relatively small undergraduate classes, and will enjoy many excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. 

 

The candidate's teaching will focus on professional/technical communications and design. Teaching responsibilities will include delivering foundational technical communication courses and contributing to third and fourth year engineering design courses. The foundational technical communication courses are linked to the first and second year design courses. The successful applicant will engage with the Northern BC community to develop community-based and industry-based service design projects across the range of environmental and civil engineering. 

 

Applicants for this position must hold a Masters’ degree or higher in a relevant discipline and have some teaching experience in a post-secondary or adult education setting.  We seek an individual who has or is eligible to obtain licensure as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia. Industrial experience would be a benefit. The ideal candidate should be willing to help develop the curriculum to support a strong foundation in engineering principles while exploring design challenges for the future. The successful applicant will participate in teaching and assessing graduate attributes relating to design, engineering tools, teamwork, communication, professionalism, ethics and equity, and life-long learning.
