Since 2002, Coastal Water Store has been providing recreational and purified drinking water for offices, industries, local businesses, and private homes in mid-Vancouver Island. We install, service, and maintain a variety of purifying systems, including single under-the-counter/sink installations or home-wide systems. We are currently looking for a full time Water Treatment Engineer to help us expand our services and products to greener water solutions, particularly rainwater harvesting catchment and filtration systems for residential use.

As a Water Treatment Engineer, your role is to work with general supervision and direction on rainwater harvesting and filtration projects, as well as work under the guidance of the manager for larger fresh water filtration projects. You will assist in verifying compliance with applicable codes and standards and make recommendations and specifications for projects. You will be responsible to:

  • Confer with management and customers to determine water filtration and installation requirements
  • Apply practical knowledge related to water resource and drainage design, providing workable solutions on various projects
  • Consult residents on installation, maintenance and products best suited to their needs
  • Plan and design water treatment systems for residential and commercial clients, including that of rainwater harvesting and other green energy designs
  • Develop construction specifications, procedures, and appropriate materials
  • Ensure installation plans meet guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations
  • Determine proper pump systems, including pump sizing and selection
  • Perform hydrologic and hydrodynamic analysis using standard models
  • Design and assess erosion protection and sediment control measures
  • Help maintain water quality
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate the operations of rainwater harvesting system installations on-site at residential properties
  • Prepare detailed preliminary designs for new installations of rainwater harvesting systems for the unique needs of residential properties
  • Ensure systems are maintained in a safe manner via proactive performance testing and developing maintenance schedules
  • Assist in the diagnoses, servicing, and repair of rainwater harvesting, filtration and catchment systems
  • Research federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory requirements relating to building codes and ensuring installations comply with codes, regulations, and work safety standards
  • Provide formal assistance in technical guidance and training for the new filtration systems offered by business
  • Assist the manager in mentoring and transferring knowledge to new hires to install, service, and maintain water filtration systems
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

Employment Requirements:

  • Completion of degree in Civil Engineering, or related professional engineering degree
  • Minimum 5 years experience in engineering positions
  • Minimum 5 years experience consulting in water filtration and rainwater catchment systems
  • Knowledge of filtration, sanitation, and water run-off processes
  • Comprehensive understanding of hydraulics, including development of pump curves
