Director, Engineering Projects

Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that operates Vancouver International Airport. With a record 24.2 million passengers, 56 airlines, 127 destinations and 313,000 tonnes of cargo in 2017, YVR continues to grow rapidly. YVR is committed to creating an airport that British Columbia can be proud of and to providing economic benefits to the region. As a jobs generator, a community contributor and a hub of innovation, YVR’s reputation as a safe and efficient airport requires a coordinated team effort, built on a strong foundation.

Big changes are underway at YVR including key projects that will enhance the airport experience involving the biggest sustainability project to date, plus a new parking option with a massive state-of-the-art parkade. As the Director, Engineering Projects, reporting to the Vice President Engineering, you will be at the centre of the action and the person delivering on this major $580million central utilities project and parking structure expansion. It is a large, dual project with a 2022 completion date. It involves managing the work of the main construction company, dozens of sub-contractors, different trades, over 500 construction workers, all within a site that operates 24/7. The Director is responsible for all planning, budgeting, reporting and oversight, and the delivery of this multi-faceted development.

Given the nature of the work, the Director will engage with and manage effective working relationships with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams and key YVR stakeholders, internally and externally, ensuring technical details are adhered to, and deadlines and budgets are met. Additionally, project status updates will take place with senior YVR management and from time to time, presentations will be made by the Director to the YVR Board or Committees of the Board.

The ideal candidate is a highly effective project leader with a specific track record of success in managing complex high value capital infrastructure projects, using industry best practices. Ideally with a P. Eng. in Mechanical or Electrical, the Director will bring exceptional communications skills, plus proven experience dealing with evolving project demands necessitating solving issues immediately. YVR needs a champion for safe working practices, site culture and will lead by example around encouraging creativity, innovation and open communication.

A minimum of 15 -20 years of progressive experience delivering major capital projects should be outlined in a detailed resume, along with a cover letter if you wish to pursue this position with YVR.  Visit our website and submit your application to George Madden and Jennifer Madden at https://pfmsearch.com/executive-opportunity/vancouver-airport-authority-yvr-director-engineering-projects/.
