Assistant Professor, Aerospace and Multi-Disciplinary Design Optimization, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021.  

The department is interested in candidates in Aerospace Engineering: Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization (MDO). Areas of expertise include: Conceptual Air Vehicle Design, Computational and/or Experimental Aeroelasticity, Multi-physics Modeling for Aerospace Systems, Analysis of the Conventional (including high-speed) and/or Autonomous/Unmanned Aerospace Systems, Integration of Air Vehicle Subsystems (e.g., Airframe, Avionics, Propulsion) and Performance Analysis.

We are seeking a candidate who will be a leader in their field, passionate about teaching, support positive learning outcomes and student experience, and add to the diversity of our collegial and vibrant academic community.

The successful candidate is expected to be an emerging scholar with an original, creative, and promising research program, with demonstrated excellence in intellectual and scholarly endeavors. This will be evidenced by scholarly output and research impact that demonstrates the potential for an independent and internationally recognized research program leading to high-quality publications, attracting external research funding, local and international collaboration, and providing an excellent training environment for graduate students and research personnel.  

The successful candidate will have a demonstrate ability to develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in aerospace engineering as well as fundamental courses in general engineering and mechanical engineering. You will actively contribute to teaching, curriculum development, graduate student supervision and mentoring and are expected to provide service in support of the Department, School, University, and Profession. You will be strongly encouraged to build collaborations with other researchers in the department, other departments, and faculties across campus, including the faculty members from the University of Calgary Aerospace Network (UCAN). To be eligible for consideration, candidates must hold or have completed a Doctoral degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date.  Applicants with industrial experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills.  All candidates must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
