Mechanical Project Manager (Food Manufacturing)

Malone Group is expanding and looking to hire an energetic and seasoned Project Manager to join our team in Burlington. The successful candidate will be experienced in running projects and will be a self-starter able to work independently executing projects with technical and overall project management input with only high-level oversight from an operations and quality control perspective. The successful candidate shall, during the term of this Agreement, perform the duties and responsibilities as summarized per below and more details in the formal job description. This position reports to Vice President Operations, North America, or designate.

 

Responsibilities

·Manage projects by proper planning and obtaining resources as necessary to complete the scope of work as required

·Monitor project for progress versus budget

·Provide technical expertise as it relates to Food & Beverage Industry.

·Perform pump calculations, piping sizing calculations, stress analyses, and material selections. 

·Attend meetings with clients and spearhead minutes and action lists.

·Respond to Requests for Information and Requests for Proposals

·Lead the preparation and issue of equipment and installation RFQs/RFPs

·Provide process design assistance such as heat and mass balances, equipment layouts, equipment specifications.

·Prepare process flow diagrams and assist in the preparation of P&IDs.

·Lead and check the preparation of technical specifications, equipment lists and material lists

·Perform calculations and assessments as required. Assist more junior engineering staff to complete the same as necessary.

·Liaise with other engineering disciplines both in Burlington and other Malone Group locations (Calgary, Ireland, UK) to coordinate technical information.

 Liaise with other engineering firms and specialty subconsultants as required and prepare and manage subconsultants agreements.

·Review and advise on technical documents submitted by vendors.

·Assist in the identification and specification of instrumentation.

·Assist in the development of control narratives.

·Co-ordinate with drafters and designers executing process equipment and piping designs and provide technical expertise and guidance.

·HVAC and utility systems (boilers, chillers, air compressors, refrigeration) experience is an asset.

Candidate Profile

·Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario status and 10 to 15 years’ experience.

·Registration or eligibility for registration in other provinces or states an asset.

·A strong background in engineering technology for industrial projects particularly chemical, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, and food and beverage.

·Some experience with an engineering consulting practice is an asset but not mandatory.

·Must have experience working closely with clients on the design of facilities and systems and must feel comfortable in the plant environment.

Must have a good understanding of multidisciplinary packages that include process, mechanical, electrical, controls, architectural and civil aspects and be able to compile such packages with internal   and subconsultant resources.

·General knowledge of 3D software such as ACAD, Auto Plant, and Smart Plant and a good understanding of the requirements to manage the system and the team working in these platforms.

·Good working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and MS Project.

Ability and discipline to work remotely with a good understanding of the technology required to maintain communication with clients and co-workers.

·Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.

·Ability to travel to clients’ sites and willingness to work at client sites as necessary. Driver’s license necessary.

·Flexibility to undertake other assignments such as proposal writing and cost estimating.
