The Ocean Supercluster is a private sector-led partnership that brings companies together to boost innovation and modernization in Canada’s ocean industries.  Companies from different ocean sectors have co-invested to adopt and commercialize technologies to solve shared challenges and develop talent, improve supply chain opportunities and foster more ocean start-ups to build the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.  The Ocean Supercluster will focus investment on industrial, technical and scientific innovation that will energize the economy and result in improved sustainability outcomes, with a vision to grow the ocean economy into one of the most significant, sustainable and valuable segments of Canada’s economy.

The Ocean Supercluster is currently seeking an experienced senior leader to join their dynamic team as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Atlantic Canada.

The CEO, reporting to the Board of Directors, is appointed for a five (5) year term and is responsible for implementing the Ocean Supercluster’s long-term strategic vision and business strategy.  The CEO will ensure effective leadership of the management of new R&D, science and technology activities in Canada’s Atlantic region.  Pairing strong leadership with visionary thinking, the CEO must act as a steward and continue to foster change, innovation and communication.  As a strategic and collaborative leader, the CEO is tasked with forging lasting relationships amongst the marine renewable energy, fisheries, aquaculture, oil and gas, defence, shipbuilding and transportation industries, their regulatory bodies, communities in Service and Supply, private and public-sector R&D, provincial educational institutions and governments.  Implementing rules of governance and corporate procedures, the CEO is accountable for decisions regarding operating, financial management, human resources and administrative matters.     

As the ideal candidate, you are a strategic and visionary thinker with proven transformational and action-oriented leadership that drives operational efficiency.  Proactive and energetic, you anticipate and understand trends (including digitalization), foresee problems and opportunities and successfully interpret them for the organization effectiveness.  Your demonstrated dynamism and passion, as well as your superior stakeholder and relationship building expertise, will contribute to guiding the success of the Ocean Supercluster’s vision, strategy and objectives.  With a track record of developing and shaping strategic partnerships, you have significant experience in facilitation and consensus-building with external and internal stakeholders across diverse backgrounds.

Proficient in managing multiple discipline technology projects, you have a background of over 15 years of leadership and stakeholder relationship building.  A demonstrated leadership and execution ability in any of the following, or a combination of, marine renewable energy, fisheries, aquaculture, oil and gas, defence, shipbuilding, private and public-sector R&D, transportation or a similar environment is a definite asset.  With a successful track record of ensuring the delivery of projects on time and budget, you bring experience managing large diverse budgets.  You have a combination of strong business sense and technical expertise in ocean related technologies and hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field.
