Water Security Agency (WSA) is a unique organization in Canada - bringing together all of government's core water management responsibilities in one place. We manage the province's water supply, regulate drainage, own and operate 69 dams and related canals, write water policy and law, build needed scientific knowledge, assess water quality, assess ecological health, develop and deliver water programs, manage interjurisdictional water agreements, protect water quality, ensure safe drinking water and treatment of wastewater, reduce flood and drought damage, protect aquatic habitat and provide information about water.

The Water Security Agency was formed to lead implementation of the 25 Year Saskatchewan Water Security Plan. The plan will ensure the sustainability and quality of Saskatchewan’s surface and ground water supplies while protecting drinking water supplies from the source to the tap.

Job Description

WSA owns and operates 69 dams in the province, ranging in size from large, like Gardiner Dam that forms Lake Diefenbaker, to small earth dams and in-stream weirs. These dams provide water supplies and recreation and mitigate the effects of flooding. You'll specialize in the field of dam safety, and be part of the team that ensures all of our dams are operated and maintained in accordance with our Dam Safety Management Policy. In this way, we know that our dams are safe and we can maximize their benefits for the citizens of Saskatchewan.

You will provide oversight for all aspects of dam safety management including dam safety inspections and reviews, studies and analyses, emergency preparedness and response planning, public safety audits and operation, maintenance and surveillance manuals. You will manage the work of engineering consultants for specialized dam safety studies and analyses.  You'll also guide the work of technologists and tradespeople and provide support to the operations & maintenance and geotechnical structures & design groups.

You will work among a diverse and passionate team of professionals, both internal and external to WSA, in the fields of engineering, engineering technology, water quality, ecology, law, sociology, public policy, local governments that are leading this exciting challenge in our province.

The successful candidate shall possess a degree in Civil Engineering or a similar engineering discipline, a licence to practice professional engineering from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and 4 years of related experience.

Note:  Applicants with the required education but lesser experience are encouraged to apply as they may be considered for an Engineer-in-Training, Dam Safety position at a lower management classification.  Applicants with the required education and over 10 years directly related experience are encouraged to apply as they may be considered for a Senior Engineer, Dam Safety position at a higher management classification.
