Water Resources Engineer

The Water Resources Engineer is accountable for developing and implementing system strategies related to sewer odour and corrosion, and flood mitigation. This includes various phases of project implementation such as project management, field investigations and monitoring, conceptual/feasibility studies and evaluation, and the preparation of engineering design reports. 



Qualifications, experience and behaviours as the successful candidate you will possess are:

  • Completion of degree in Civil, Chemical or Environmental engineering from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • Additional courses and/or training in water resources, municipal wastewater processes, and engineering economics are desirable.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in planning, design and operations of drainage facilities, and sewer odour assessment and mitigation. Candidates possessing less than the required years of experience may be considered at a developmental level.
  • Demonstrable experience with: Planning, designing, and/or constructing drainage infrastructure such as sewer trunks, pump stations, and stormwater facilities and management of consultant projects and coordination of interdisciplinary committees.
  • Significant knowledge of engineering principles and standard practices related to drainage construction and environmental engineering.
  • Knowledge of:hydraulics, sewer ventilation hydraulics, odour generation processes, hydrology, water quality, wet weather flow management, combined and separate sewer systems and drainage design standards.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License, with 6 or fewer demerits. 

The Water Resources Engineer will have the following technical skills:

  • Proficient in analyzing data, preparing summary reports, and presenting the results.
  • Strong knowledge and skill in areas of project management principles, sewer design and construction methods, sewer network analysis, and sewer ventilation/pressurization dynamics.
  • A high level of technical competence with practical experience in sewer odour abatement or air quality assessment and dispersion modelling software is highly desirable.
  • Practical knowledge of GIS systems and their applications, and strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
