Dean, Lassonde School of Engineering

The Lassonde School of Engineering has enjoyed incredible growth and success since its formation five years ago and is poised to continue to thrive in the years ahead. Our founding belief is that the complex challenges and boundless opportunities of our time transcend traditional divides, and the world needs a different kind of engineer and new approaches to research to address these challenges. Lassonde was created to be the home of the Renaissance Engineer: a place where students are free to explore their passions and gain different perspectives from the world around them. Our students, faculty and staff think in big systems, design with people in mind, and embrace innovative approaches to knowledge creation.

We are looking for a new Dean who will continue to raise the Lassonde School of Engineering’s profile, and articulate and extend the School’s vision. Reporting to the Vice-President Academic & Provost, the Dean is the School’s chief academic and administrative officer and leads its academic activities as well as the budget, general administration and future development of the School. In addition to being the face of Lassonde internally and externally, the Dean is a member of York’s senior leadership team and plays an important role in shaping the future course of the wider university.

The next Dean will have an engineering background and a track record of academic achievement, administrative accomplishment, and dedication to the student experience. They will possess the ambassadorial skills necessary to grow the profile of the young School as well as the management skills and financial acumen required to ensure we run in an efficient and sustainable way. Crucially, they will be a forward looking and broad thinking leader with a vision for the critical role engineers can play in an ever changing-society. This appointment, which is renewable, is for five years and is expected to commence July 1, 2018 or as mutually agreed.
