Electrical Engineer – Term Ending March 31, 2021

 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director Plazas, the Electrical Engineer will work closely with WDBA’s General Engineering Consultant (GEC) and Project Co to ensure electrical design compliance through the procurement stage and will also support the construction management team through site support, inspection and design review.

 

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Provide input as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to WDBA/GEC for all related matters; includes reviewing the design drawings for quality control and conformance with project specifications
  • Provide SME review and acceptance of designs related to high voltage utilities coordination, transformers, substations, switchgear, lights, low voltage control diagrams, panels, load computations, etc
  • Electrical engineering support as SME for design, conformance and quality during the construction, installation and commissioning project phases
  • Prepare, review and analyze reports, documentation observations and field-testing results
  • Coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, technical support, testing activities and review of related documentation to ensure compliance with specifications and codes
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
  • Contract administration verification in coordination with GEC, Project Co and WDBA SME
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports

 

Competencies and Qualifications

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario or P.E. in Michigan
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Electrical power distribution for building and sites design experience
  • Experience with P3 model and complex projects considered to be an asset
  • Electrical design experience in building and site power distribution and medium / high voltage, lighting systems, power monitoring, grounding, fire alarm, communications and security systems, instrumentation and control/signal systems, power degradation, harmonics and voltage fluctuations, emergency back-up design and system redundancy, short circuit analysis and arch flashing and electrical safety
  • Detailed Knowledge of National Electrical Codes CSA 22.1, National Building Code, NFPA 70 and National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and other applicable codes and standards for construction of new facilities 
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Building Code, ESA, OESC, standards and ordinances pertaining to building design
  • Coordinate electrical design and construction within the context of the Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, HVAC/Plumbing Engineering
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple issues concurrently
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Possesses strong negotiation, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing
  • Well-rounded knowledge of relationship management
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Personnel Screening/ Security Clearance

 

Compensation

Salary $87,867 to $107,393 plus benefits and pension package
