Operations Manager (Chemical Engineer)

Work Location:  Slave Lake (camp accommodations provided)

Work Rotation (if applicable):    5 Days per week

Work Days / Hours:  40 hours per week

Purpose of Role:  The Operations Manager is responsible for leadership of the liquid plant and camp operations in Slave Lake. This individual will be significantly involved in plant operations and provide input and guidance to the development and execution of capital projects. Day to day backup to the VP Manufacturing.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision and leadership of plant operations teams;
  • Safety and environmental leadership within operations function;
  • Provide guidance, support, and act as a direct technical resource for the team undertaking various aspects of chemical engineering, including design, planning and development;
  • Develop and implement industry best practices, key management systems, and operational KPI’s;
  • Guidance of operational input to capital project and process design plans;
  • Liaise with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders on a technical level;
  • Identifies, reviews and implements process improvement and cost reduction opportunities;
  • Guidance to the overall chemical QA/QC program for testing of process units, intermediates, and finished products;
  • Process troubleshooting, monitoring and control;
  • Development of standard operating procedures and operations training/mentoring.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, WORK EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

  • A professional designated Chemical Engineer or related background with at least 10+ years’ experience in a chemical continuous process operation;
  • Relevant experience in evaporation and natural brine processing considered an asset;
  • Experience in a well-structured environment with good system and procedures, and the ability to develop such structures within the Tiger organization;
  • Experience in leading, supervising, directing, and managing people in cross functional organizations and project teams;
  • Experience with environmental aspects of industrial plant operation, treatment and disposal;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; 
  • Strong team player with other technical and non-technical individuals;
  • Has a methodical approach to work practices with strong emphasis on quality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Work from height.
  • Climbing, crouching, stooping, and working in awkward positions required.

Work Conditions:

  • Industrial plant setting.
  • Working inside and outside in various weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noisy conditions.
  • At times may be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.
