Assistant Professors (2 positions)

The Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions, at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2017, subject to final budgetary approval.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in the field of structural engineering and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is mandatory. The successful candidate must have exceptional teaching and research qualifications in structural engineering. The successful candidate will demonstrate an independent, externally funded research agenda of dynamic, critical and applied scholarly/creative research. He/she will be expected to provide evidence of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to supervise graduate students, to participate in other educational, scholarly and professional activities, to liaise with industry, and to undertake research and publish in scholarly journals in one or more of the following areas: structural mechanics, numerical modelling, advanced and innovative construction materials, sustainable construction, advanced structural dynamics, tall buildings, blast effects on structures, off-shore structures and earthquake engineering.

Furthermore, the successful candidate must have the ability to teach (i) undergraduate core courses such as Computer-Aided Structural Analysis; Structural Design in Concrete, Steel and Timber; Structural Capstone Design Projects; and Highway Materials and (ii) graduate courses in the areas of Solid Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis, Advanced Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. The successful candidate will possess the demonstrated capacity to engage in collaboration and collegial service.

The Department of Civil Engineering has 19 faculty members, over 600 undergraduate students pursuing an accredited Bachelor of Engineering degree, and over 130 graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels.
