Overview

The Simulation Specialist, FDNE will join a team of dedicated and experienced engineers involved in the design, development, implementation and validation of Real Time Digital Simulation products. A deep and comprehensive understanding of Electromagnetic Transient Simulation (EMT) Techniques, Transient Stability Analysis (TSA) algorithms and implementation of hybrid EMT/TSA solutions are key requirements for this position.

 

Position Responsibilities

Working closely with the Engineering Development team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

·     Development of power system component models suitable for use in real time EMT simulation

·     Development, evaluation, analysis and implementation of  Frequency Dependent Network Equivalence (FDNE) functions for real time simulation

·     Development,  evaluation, analysis and implementation of a real time hybrid simulation methods and techniques which combine EMT and TSA algorithms to allow representation of very large scale networks

·     Participate in Marketing functions as necessary, particularly in the China Market

·     Participate as an instructor for real time simulation training courses held at RTDS Technologies office

·     Lead training and teaching of advanced simulation application courses and support project work by RTDS Technologies’ customer base in China

·     Participate in installation and commissioning of RTDS simulator products at customer sites and provide training on its operation

·     Test new RTDS software functions and features as they are developed and implemented

·     International travel approx. 25%

 

Qualifications

·         Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering  with an emphasis in power systems

·         Postgraduate research experience in the field of power systems and/or power electronics demonstrating a deep understanding of Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) and Transient Stability Analysis (TSA) theory with practical experience implementing hybrid EMT/TSA simulation in real time

·         2 years’ experience and knowledge in the theory of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalence (FDNE) and algorithms of rational fitting and passivity enforcement

·         2 years’ experience in implementing FDNE in commercial level software

·         Sound knowledge of  power system analysis techniques, having minimum 2 years’ experience in the analysis of large scale power systems

·         Familiar with optimization techniques and algorithms

·         Experience in using electromagnetic transients simulation tools/programs for both real-time and off-line simulation studies

·         Demonstrate solid understanding of physics and how it relates to real time modelling of power system components

·         Fluency in Mandarin language is an asset
