Traffic Manager

Reporting to the Manager of Transportation, within the Engineering Department, the Traffic Manager manages and maintains a safe and efficient transportation system for the movement of people and goods on the City of Surrey road network. The Traffic Manager leads a team of 21 staff who plan, manage, commission and maintain traffic signals, overhead and ground mounted traffic signs and pavement markings and streetlights, across 1746 km of highways, arterial roads, collectors, and local roads.  This role oversees the Traffic Management Centre and the Intelligent Transportation System projects, road safety, traffic control, signage and pavement marking standards, traffic engineering analysis, traffic signals, including signal timing plans, design reviews and analysis and traffic volumes.  The Traffic Manager is responsible for managing approvals and permits for construction work on roadways, special events and overweight and oversized vehicles.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree, ideally in Civil Engineering with a specialty in transportation.  The successful candidate will have a P.Eng. designation and be in good standing with the APEGBC, with over ten years of progressively responsible experience.  Experience in the municipal environment is an asset. The role requires excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and problem solving skills along with extensive technical knowledge of traffic engineering and road design standards and guidelines roadway electrical systems, road safety and budgeting.
